The United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in collaboration with the Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) and Tanzania Police Forces  cordially invites the media to the wreath-laying ceremony to mark the commemoration of the International Day of UN Peacekeepers, to be held at Mnazi Mmoja Heroes Grounds, on Thursday, 29 May, 2014, at 0900am.
The Guest of honor at the ceremony will be the Minister of Defence Forces and National Service, Hon. Dr. Hussein Mwinyi. The theme chosen for this year's commemoration is “United Nations Peacekeeping:  A Force for Peace. A Force for Change. A Force for the Future” As the world is confronted with new challenges , UN Peacekeeping is evolving to meet them, helping more people than ever through some of the most destructive conflicts.
UN Peacekeeping is looking at how innovation and technology can help not only deliver in these challenging environments but also to offer real value for money. All in an effort to ensure our Blue Helmets are 'A Force for Peace, a Force for Change, a Force for the Future'.
The programme of the day will include a guard of honor, presentation of messages from the Government and the UN Secretary-General, wreath laying session and performances.
The annual observance of International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers was established by General Assembly Resolution 57/129 in 2002. The Day is marked on 29 May each year to pay tribute to “all men and women who have served and continue to serve in United Nations Peacekeeping operations for their high level of professionalism, dedication and courage, and to honor the memory of those who have lost their lives in the cause of peace”.
